A “gutted” Southern Steel will use their disappointing end to the 2019 ANZ Championship season as a catalyst to bounce back in 2020. The Steel suffered a heart breaking 56-53 loss to the Northern Stars last week in the elimination final, drawing their season to a close.
A quarter of the Silver Ferns World Cup squad will be made up of Southern Steel players after Shannon Saunders, Gina Crampton and Te Paea SelbyRickit were all selected for the tournament in England in July.
Both the Southland Sharks and Southern Steel knew they would be the hunted coming into their 2019 seasons as reigning champions in their respective leagues but so far both teams have relished the fight and come out on top.
