Round 21 F1 team power rankings: A French surprise on a Brazilian Sunday

Could you have imagined that Alpine would be the team to surprise in Brazil? Surely not. But how will that change things when it comes to the latest edition of the F1 team power rankings?

Before we get to that, it’s disclaimer time. If you’ve read these before, you know the drill. These are all subjective and based mainly on my (incredibly smart) opinion mixed with form and on-track results, meaning it is a generally subjective list that holds no real weight except for the large basis of fact I like to think I can generate.

So with all that in mind, let’s get to the rankings.

10. Kick Sauber (-)

It’s a race like this one which Kick Sauber are praying for, as it gives them a solid hope at a points finish. Unfortunately, not as many cars retired as they would’ve liked, and they still remain pointless in 2024.

9. Aston Martin (-)

A point to Alonso would’ve put them above Williams, but it didn’t happen, and what looked like a good qualifying for them turned into a nightmare race. How long till Adrian Newey arrives at the team again?

8. Williams (-)

Probably should drop them down given how poor of a weekend overall they had with the amount of crashes and damage the team has to face, but Alex Albon would’ve been extremely high up on the grid on race day had it not been for his crash and who knows what he could’ve achieved. So for that, they hold on to their spot in eighth.

7. Haas (-4)

Oof. Bad weekend for the team. Yeah it’s harsh to drop them down this low after one bad weekend, but other teams around them had great weekends which can’t be ignored. Expect them to bounce back at home in Vegas.

6. RB (-)

Double points for the team in a great result for them. Feel bad not putting them up higher than this, but retaining your spot is sometimes just as good.

5. Mercedes (-)

Another anonymous weekend for the team that delivered some more solid points. Could’ve possibly won the race with George Russell had things gone slightly differently. Unfortunately, they didn’t, but the points were still good.

4. Alpine (+3)

Where the hell did that come from?! Amazing result for the team. Their first double podium in a decade and leaps them way up the order in the Constructors’ Championship. A great race to be an Alpine fan.

3. Red Bull (-)

An amazing race by Max Verstappen couldn’t help them as much as it should’ve in the fight for the Constructors’. The fact that Sergio Perez was beaten by both RB drivers is a worrying sign, and only solidifies the fact that his days at the team are numbered.

2. Ferrari (-1)

Couldn’t quite get the magical hat-trick and honestly looked nowhere near doing so. Charles Leclerc at least got some solid points to keep them in the hunt.

1. McLaren (+1)

They didn’t win the main race and had a bit of a horrible one to be fair, but a sprint win and two sprint poles still meant it was a solid weekend overall. Still lead the Constructors’ and had both cars scoring points unlike their main rivals. Makes them the top team this weekend.

What do you think of this list? Which order would you currently rank the teams in? Let me know your thoughts below!
