Round 16 F1 team power rankings: Ferrari string a surprise as McLaren cracks once again emerge

Each round of the 2024 F1 season continues to bring with it entertainment and drama, as once again we find ourselves intrigued by the order of the teams and just where they will end up on this list.

Did the Ferrari masterclass bump them up? What about the cracks in McLaren’s armour… and how is Red Bull’s form changing things? So many questions with so many answers to come.

But first, the usual disclaimer. If you’ve read these before, you know the drill. These are all subjective and based mainly on my (incredibly smart) opinion mixed with form and on-track results, meaning it is a generally subjective list that holds no real weight except for the large basis of fact I like to think I can generate.

So with all that in mind, let’s get to the rankings.

10. Kick Sauber (-)

The good news for Kick Sauber is they weren’t last in Monza! The bad news for them is that both drivers are now behind both rookies who have started only one race in 2024. This season can’t end soon enough for them.

9. RB (-1)

A tricky weekend for the team with nothing really coming from it. Yuki Tsunoda was out on lap seven with an overheating issue, while Daniel Ricciardo drove an okay race that was rubbished by a penalty that saw him finish in 13th.

8. Alpine (-2)

After a strong showing in the Netherlands it was straight back down to earth for the French team with a poor showing that landed them nowhere near the points.

7. Aston Martin (-2)

A nothing weekend for the team with no points and no pace. Here’s hoping an Adrian Newey announcement might change things soon.

6. Williams (+3)

Points! Always a solid result for the team who always seem to do well at Monza. Alex Albon was in fine form all weekend, and Franco Colapinto did a great job on debut. Let’s hope it can remain consistent on their form for the remaining races in 2024.

5. Haas (+2)

A driver that received how many penalties and a race band somehow manages to still get a point? On top of another driver who gets a car into the top ten and could’ve been in the points had it not been for some bad luck? That’s a great weekend for the team in the very tight midfield.

4. Red Bull (-)

Wow. Sixth and eighth. With no pace and nowhere near a car that can challenge for a win. Things really are looking bleak for the team that only lost a single race in 2023.

3. Mercedes (-)

Solid if not unspectacular from the team, with both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell doing enough to come away with some solid points.

2. Ferrari (-)

I wanted so badly to put them in first, but they have to just remain in second for the time being. One of the best strategy calls in recent times for one famous win. Let’s keep this up, shall we?

1. McLaren (-)

You do have to feel for them in one way as they really did get outgunned by a superior strategy. However, you do also have to question some other tactics, particularly when one driver is fighting hard for a Championship. Still the fastest team overall though, something they really need to capitalise on more.
