New service ready to go

Updated: Oct 31, 2021

The inaugural flight of the new Auckland to Invercargill direct service will land at Invercargill Airport this Sunday night.

The flight is scheduled to leave Auckland at 7.35pm and land in Invercargill at 9.30pm.

The airport has gone through a series of upgrades to meet demand for the new direct jet service, including a new security screening area as well as a new departure lounge.

Invercargill Airport general manager Nigel Finnerty said the construction of the new upgrades was complete with only a few “finishing touches” to be done before the flight lands on Sunday.

“We’re really excited about the flight and what it can do for Southland. It will directly connect businesses, travellers and exporters to our biggest city and to the world. It’s been a busy few months for everyone involved and we’re all looking forward to Sunday nights first flight.”

The direct service means Invercargill will be the first regional airport to host a regular jet service.
